Bashing a 1920 Pickup from Model Power Hearse Bashing a 1920 Pickup from Model Power HearseBy: ShaygetzBrowsing thru my stash of parts I came across one of those Model Power hearses with the too long wheel base in less than servicable condition. On closer examination I realized that underneath lay a reasonable model of an early pickup/work truck. ![]() During cutting, I crushed the original. Having another one, I carefully cut behind the cab sides and along the tub rail of the hearse's bed. ![]() I damaged the radiator casting so I made another by building it up with strips of 1/32x1/16 styrene. I then carved it down to the shape of the hood casting. ![]() The castings are somewhat crude but workable so precise measuring is pretty much out of the question. It's mostly a matter of shaping and fitting. I moved the rear axle ahead of the indentation provided by the maker of the kit. I then cut and fitted the drive train and fenders to fit. Shown are the before and after modifications. http://www.2guyzandsumtrains.com/uploads/forums/truckradaxle.jpg"> ![]() Carve the top of the bed sides to an angle as seen in the picture. Install the front hood casting and roof piece cut to size. Make up a back to the cab out of thin styrene then glue it in place. The window is 3/32x3/16". Once dry, carefully carve it to the cotours of the roof and sides. ![]() ![]() I applied the wheels next, choosing to add "duallys" to the rear as this is a beefy little truck. ![]() Apply what paint you will, Black and a near Pullman green seem to be the most common of the day. Highlight the hubs, radiator and lights with either brass or silver. Painting my tires with Testor's Rubber sets them off a bit. Finally add the spare tires to either side of the cab, carving just a bit of a nick into the bed rail to set them closer to the sides. You now have a snappy little work truck ready to haul whatever to where ever. Oooohhhh, that I could get one or two more of these puppies...my town needs a dogcatcher. ![]() ![]()

1913 New Haven Railroad train crash kills 21 and injure 50. 1919 Congress passes bill barring railroad strikes. 1935 1914 Between eighty and ninety thousand pounds of tomatoes raised by Monroe township farmers are being shipped from the Snider weigh-in station at the sub-station of the Indiana Union Traction Company daily by George Dwiggins, who has charge of the Alexandria shipments. The tomato crop this year promises to beat that of last year. Large flat cars on the Indiana traction line are used to ship the crated tomatoes to Marion, Indiana, where the canning season is at its height. As fast as the crates are unloaded at the Marion factory, they are shipped back to Alexandria. A continual line of farm wagons leading to the sideboards can be seen at the sub-station at almost every hour of the day.
