Looks wonderful Drew!

You been hanging out at the old Louisville and Nashville turnpike just on the other side of West Point? Tioga Falls to be exact.

Amazing scenery.

thats where they filmed Stripes (ala Bill Murray) when they were on the check border.
Dag gon ballast looks great to! Cool

philip

Thanks Phillip!

I do get down in that neck of the woods from time to time...I canored out there when I was a kid on the Salt River & the Ohio...& I've walked those tracks many times...what the L&N called the "Texas Line", running from Louisville to Henderson...My wife & I still like to get out to Otter Creek when we get a chance...Back in Feb 2004, we celebrated my parents' 50th anniversary at Doe Run Inn over in Brandenburg...
I spent half my childhood in LaRue County, & the other half in Louisville, so yeah...I'm Kentucky to the bone!
Stripes...theres a story in that...I got paid $200 as an extra in that movie! Not out at Knox, but in downtown Louisville...

yep! St. Louis Henderson & Texas runs right by Irvington. You ever been down to Fordsville/ Falls of Rough area? Rich in RR history but the tracks are all removed. The Louisville part was great when he left that lady stranded on the second street bridge. Only problem was the airport wasn't in Jeffersonville. Laughing Tell us more about your part in Stripes? Cool! My family are all around Lebanon and Marion County.

Your rock tutorial is a fine one!

Hey, I’ve got some pictures around here of some of the RR’s in that area.... I’ll see if I can dig them up!

I’ve been fishin’ at Rough River many times, both above & below the dam…I have family in Leitchfield.

I was an extra on Stripes for 2 whole days back in 1980… (I was going to UofL at the time…that’s where we found out they were looking for extras)
We gathered on the campus, & they went through the crowd & picked out around 80 people, & told us we’d get 100 bucks a day, & to show up at 800am on a Sat morning…
The first day, we just stood around on Main St., & did nothing…They fed us lunch, we stood aound a little longer, & then they sent us home…
The next day, they had me & three other guys walk up & down on a section of Washington St., where we were 20 – 30 yards away from where they were filming a scene with Bill Murray (that’s as close as I got to any “stars”) It was a scene where he gets his car re-po’d…
I have seen the movie a couple of times, & have never managed to see myself…I believe they cut us out!

You got folks in Marion Co? I’ve got some Out-Law…er…I mean …In-Laws just up 52 a piece in Nelson Co, just outside New Hope

Shocked Drew, you should produce those trees and bushes to sell, they are always fantastic. They really make a scene. Shocked

After 0-8-0t #5 was wrecked, the crew down at the MTC shops had to get busy erecting some new motive power…
Here we see a freshly shopped 0-6-0 steaming over the Dawg Fork trestle…
She still needs a headlight, & her road number, which will be #9
