Jon,
Cool bugbash!!
Walthers has this Jeep pick up which looks like it would fit in for $2.50 it's made by EKO which is a Brazilian company.

It's in stock.

I guess you can still get them in CA for cheap in decent drive home condition. I'm not sure how common the duallies are. I always wanted one for a tow vehicle for my CJ-3B. I was going to call it the Big Toe and the 3b Pinky.

Really nice job on the VW Jon!
My uncle Willard drove one of those back in the 60's...I think his was a 4-door, though...?
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the stake truck!

Thanks, Drew. I think there were 4 door versions that are very rare.
OK, so I decided to repaint. I was not happy with the flat appearance of the paint. Not flat as is dull vs. glossy; flat as in lacking shadows and details. Notice how hard it is to make out any details like the door handles or lines between body panels. Near the rear there should be a square grill that is not even visible here.
I also had an are I wanted to fill as it showed tool marks. The marks were not bad, but got worst when painted and really stand out in a picture.

Most of the old paint was easily removed with warm water and a few drops of dishsoap on a toothbrush. The beauty of acrylic paints!
I realized after looking at the photo's and reflecting on the difficulty I had getting visible coverage when dry-brushing, that I should have done an intermediate step between the black and the color. I think the cheap orange craft paint should have worked if I had included this step. The extra step is as simple as dry-brushing on some flat white, which does show up well and brings out the details as it highly contrasts the black.

After the white is drybrushed on, the top coat can just be brushed on in a normal manner. The trick here is to thin the topcoat to a translucency that does not add much color to the black paint, yet brightly colors the white areas. If the paint is too thin, additional coats may be added. If it's too thick, you can just rinse it off.
Notice how the details are now prominent. You can see the gas cap door, the lines between the body panels, the square grills towards the rear, door handles, etc.

Jon that was well worth the effort you put into the VW.
Are you going to make it look well used and abused because they where a great workhorse.
I remember seeing them in the UK.
